John is an associate with the Education group at Weston Hurd based in the Columbus office. He focuses his practice on providing general counsel services to public school districts on a variety of matters, including general and special education matters and board governance issues. John has significant experience working with school leaders on a variety of legal issues. He also has significant experience in special education matters, including IEP and Section 504 meetings, mediations, student disciplinary proceedings, manifestation determination reviews, and state and federal complaints.
Prior to joining Weston Hurd, John worked for the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) in Columbus as staff attorney where he answered questions on the Association’s legal hotline for Ohio school board members and administrators, reviewed contracts, planned and conducted trainings and professional development. While at OSBA, John also chaired the Ohio Council of School Board Attorneys Special Education Roundtable. Prior to OSBA, John spent nearly five years as a staff attorney on the special education team at Disability Rights Ohio. John received his J.D. in 2016 from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and his B.A. in 2013 from Marshall University.
